Sparrows Coffee
About This Spot
Stepping into Sparrows Coffee feels like slipping into a quietly sunlit nook within Grand Rapids’ Plainfield Avenue corridor. This neighborhood café carries a gentle, unhurried rhythm that invites both early risers and afternoon wanderers to pause for a moment. Natural light pours through expansive windows, casting soft glows across warm bamboo accents and subtle touches of blush pink that make the space feel both fresh and comforting.
The mood here is light and calm, perfect for settling in with a good book, catching up with friends over easy conversation, or laying out your work in a space that welcomes focus without fuss. The aroma of fresh coffee blends seamlessly with the occasional floral hint of a rosewater latte or the cozy spice of a pumpkin Spanish latte in the cooler months. The menu feels thoughtfully curated — familiar favorites alongside seasonal curiosities, like a hazelnut latte made creamy with oat milk or a velvety campfire mocha that somehow captures the warmth of a well-tended fire pit.
The team behind the counter contributes to the inviting atmosphere, their easy camaraderie and genuine friendliness quietly setting the tone. It’s the kind of place where baristas know your name, or at least remember how you like your coffee before you even ask. Connected directly to Kingma’s market, Sparrows provides a seamless flow from shopping to sipping, making it as practical as it is pleasant to linger. Outside, a small patio offers a breathing space for those who prefer their moments punctuated by the hum of city life and occasional passersby.
Local partnerships with nearby artisans and bakeries bring fresh pastries that feel less like an afterthought and more like a natural part of the daily routine — a pumpkin muffin or a flaky scone that pairs effortlessly with whatever drink you choose. Whether you’re here for the matcha, a cold brew, or to explore the season’s specials, Sparrows Coffee offers a quietly special retreat where familiar comforts meet subtle discoveries, all wrapped up in the casual warmth of a cherished local spot.

I love the matcha at Sparrows Coffee - it's on my favorites! It's a fun place to sit outside at or perhaps grab a drink while grocery shopping. The staff is always friendly too!

Love this place. It's on my walk to work. Baristas are always friendly and seem to get along well with each other. The atmosphere is light and clean! I love working in a light filled spot like this one. Kingma's grocery store is conveniently attached for any snacking needs. The food at Sparrows is also great. I love that they have local partnerships for their pastry options.

This coffee shop has been on my list of places to try and today I made it happen! Upon driving up to the location I noticed cute signage outside as well as a nice little patio with decent seating. Parking is a little difficult at this location- there is only street parking available. Upon entry I was greeted by super friendly staff who were ready to take my order. They had some fun specials listed and a regular menu. The setting inside is quaint, as there are a few tables to sit at and limited counter seating. My order: An Iced Lady Lazarus- espresso, oat milk, honey, and lavender. It was delicious! Full of rich flavor with the perfect balance of all ingredients. I would order this again! This place is a great addition to the GR coffee scene, and I can't wait to return!

Light space to work/relax in. I personally like the ambiance with the pink/bamboo/white decor. I tried the pumpkin one, which was delicious and served at perfect temperature. This coffee spot is connected (literally) to Kingma’s market, which was a fun surprise. It’s a really cute spot to enjoy some good coffee. I was expecting it to be larger inside than it actually is, but they do a good job with using the space available for seating. The parking isn’t too terrible and it is ADA compliant as far as I can see. I will be coming back to enjoy this space, give it a try, you won’t be disappointed

A beautiful, friendly and welcoming cafe in this awesome neighborhood. I kept it simple and just got a cappuccino with oat milk, it was absolutely delicious. Like they really nailed the proportions on this one, it was just right, i took one sip and said “oh hell yeah”. Gotta check this place out if you’re in the neighborhood. Another underrated great thing about this cafe? It only costs a dollar to get a sticker, if you’re the kind of person who tried to collect little souvenirs of the places you visit. I love that.

A very friendly and kind shop. They had good quality coffee and a nice place to get work done on my computer with free WiFi. There isn’t a ton of space for people so I almost couldn’t find a spot to work inside even though there were only 4 other customers sitting down. It’s a very cozy space though with tons of natural light. It is on the south side of Kingmas market so that from the parking lot that Google maps directed me to I couldn’t see the coffee shop. I had to walk through the grocery store to get to the coffee shop but it wasn’t hard to find

I love all the warm wood and natural light in this place. Definitely stands out right away. Warm atmosphere, great service. I do remember feeling like the latte I got was just okay, so looking through the reviews, I think I need to go back.

My favorite coffee shop! They always have new specials to try and the coffee is ALWAYS delicious. The baristas are so fun and friendly. I love coming here for a quick coffee run or to walk around Kingma’s(the attached grocery store) with my coffee. Never boring and always on trend(check out their cute Baggu merch)
